At SkyThread, we take your privacy seriously. This policy explains what data we collect, how we use it, and your rights regarding your information.
Account & sign-in: SkyThread is passwordless. You sign in using your phone number (with a one-time SMS code), Sign in with Apple, or Google. We collect your email address, phone number, username, and display name. We do not create or store a SkyThread password.
Profile information: You may optionally provide your airline, home base, role, years of experience, bio, and profile photo(s).
Content: We store posts, comments, messages, likes, follows, and other content you create.
Location data: If you opt into the "In-Town" feature, we collect coarse, airport-level location to power location drops. This data is retained only briefly (about 24 hours) and then deleted. We do not continuously track your location.
Crew Dating data (sensitive): If you use Crew Dating, we collect dating profile information including your gender and gender preference, and other lifestyle/matching details you choose to share. We treat this as sensitive personal information.
Identity verification (optional): If you choose to get verified, our verification provider Persona collects a government-issued photo ID and a selfie and performs a biometric facial comparison. This involves biometric information. See Section 8 for details. SkyThread itself stores only your verification result/status, not your ID images.
Purchases: If you buy a subscription or other in-app purchase, the transaction is handled by Apple through the App Store (StoreKit). We receive a record of what you purchased and your subscription status; we do not receive or store your full payment card number.
Pro payout & tax records: If you participate in SkyThread Pro and receive payouts, we collect the information needed to pay you and to meet tax-reporting obligations (for example, payout account details and tax identification information for U.S. persons). See Section 7.
Device information: We collect device tokens for push notifications if you enable them.
Analytics & crash data: We collect app usage analytics and crash/diagnostic data through Firebase (Google) to operate, secure, and improve the app.
We do not sell your personal information, and we do not share it for cross-context behavioral advertising. We never sell your government ID and never share it with airlines or other crew.

You control your privacy through Settings:
You can change your display name anytime and delete individual posts, comments, and messages.
We retain your personal data while your account is active and for as long as needed to operate the service, comply with our legal obligations, and resolve disputes.
You can delete your account at any time in the app under Settings, or by emailing privacy@skythread.app. When you delete your account, we remove your profile, posts, comments, messages, follows, notifications, dating profile, marketplace listings, and In-Town drops, generally within 30 days.
However, we may retain limited records after deletion where we are required to, or have a legitimate business need to, including:
Residual copies in our backups are purged on a rolling cycle, generally within about 90 days. We cannot recover content once it has been deleted from active systems, so deletion should be treated as permanent.
We implement industry-standard security measures including encryption in transit, secure servers, and access controls. Because SkyThread is passwordless, sign-in relies on phone-number one-time codes, Sign in with Apple, and Google rather than a password you create and we store. No method of transmission or storage is 100% secure, but we work to protect your information using reasonable safeguards.
SkyThread relies on the following third parties to operate. Each processes data under its own privacy policy:
Identity verification is optional. Verified members receive a "verified crew" trust badge, which confirms that a real person verified their identity — it is not a background check or a guarantee of anyone's character.
How it works: SkyThread uses Persona Identities, Inc. ("Persona"), a third-party identity-verification provider acting as our sub-processor. To verify you, Persona collects a government-issued photo ID and a selfie and performs a biometric facial comparison between the selfie and the photo on your ID to confirm you are a real person and that you match the ID.
Biometric information notice: This process involves biometric information, which may be regulated by laws such as the Illinois Biometric Information Privacy Act (BIPA), the Texas Capture or Use of Biometric Identifier Act (CUBI), Washington's biometric privacy law, and Article 9 of the GDPR (special-category data). Biometric processing is carried out by Persona solely to verify your identity, is based on your consent, and is not used for advertising and is never sold.
What SkyThread stores: SkyThread itself stores only the verification result/status (for example, "verified") — we do not store your ID images or the underlying biometric data. Persona collects, processes, and retains the ID image, selfie, and biometric data under its own privacy policy and retention schedule, available at withpersona.com/legal/privacy-policy.
We never sell your government ID and never share it with airlines or other crew.
The Crew Marketplace lets crew buy, sell, and give away items to one another. It is a peer-to-peer service, and it currently supports local, in-person meetups only (no shipping or mailing yet).
SkyThread only provides the venue that connects buyers and sellers. We are not a party to any transaction, we do not handle payment, and we do not vet, inspect, or guarantee any item or user beyond the verified badge. Buyers and sellers transact entirely at their own risk and should meet in safe, public places. When you use the Marketplace, your listing details, photos, and profile information are shared with other users so they can contact you.
To the fullest extent permitted by law, SkyThread disclaims liability for marketplace transactions, the items sold, and any in-person meeting. See the Terms of Service for the full Marketplace terms.
Crew Dating is an optional feature for adults 18 and older. If you use it, we process the dating profile information you provide — including gender and gender preference and other lifestyle/matching details, which we treat as sensitive personal information — to provide matching and show your profile to other users. We do not sell this information.
You are solely responsible for your interactions with other users and for meeting safely (meet in public, tell a friend). A verified badge confirms identity, not character; SkyThread does not perform criminal background checks on users. We provide report and block tools, and you assume the risk of any in-person meeting. To the extent permitted by law, SkyThread disclaims liability for user conduct.
SkyThread is intended for adults 18 years of age and older and includes features (such as Crew Dating and identity verification) that are not appropriate for minors. The service is not directed to children, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 18. If we learn that we have collected information from a person under 18, we will delete it and terminate the account. SkyThread is designed to comply with the Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA).
Depending on where you live, you may have the right to:
California residents (CCPA/CPRA) and EU/UK/EEA residents (GDPR) have additional rights, which are described in our in-app California Privacy Notice and GDPR Data Rights documents. To exercise any right, email privacy@skythread.app. We verify your identity before responding.
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we make material changes, we will update the "Last updated" date above and, where appropriate, notify you in the app. Your continued use of SkyThread after an update means you accept the revised policy.
